The West Virginia Coal Association, the state’s primary coal membership organization representing over 90 percent of state thermal coal production and 65 percent of metallurgical coal production, today praised Governor Jim Justice for featuring the startup of the Pleasants Power Station during his opening remarks at the WV Chamber Commerce Business Summit on Wednesday morning.
During his remarks, Governor Justice announced the startup of the Pleasants Power Plant and raved about the significant contributions of coal and coal fired electric generation to the state, region, and country.
Chris Hamilton, President and Chief Executive Officer of the West Virginia Coal Association, said, “The Governor was superb and on point in his remarks to the state’s largest gathering of business leaders, who like the Governor, get it when it comes to the most valuable energy source in existence today. He makes us all so proud to be part of his energy vision for West Virginia coal.”
Governor Justice repeatedly espoused the advantages and need for maintaining a high level of coal-fired base load generation.
Hamilton also praised Omnis Fuel Technologies, the new owner of the Pleasants Power Plant, and their team of energy experts for their investment in West Virginia and our state’s leading industry.
“The innovation and technologies employed at the Pleasants facility should serve to jump start an entire universe of coal to advanced carbon products and the opportunities that come with them,” said Hamilton.
“And let’s not forget the hard-working community leaders from Pleasants County and nearby areas who have dedicated so much time and effort to keep the plant running,” said Hamilton.
