The Friends of Coal is putting together its outreach calendar for 2011.  Currently we are putting the finishing touches on our Legislative Calendar, preparing our support materials and scheduling events.

Among the events already scheduled are:

Seminar Presentation and Sponsorship of the West Virginia Construction and Design Exposition, set for March 23rd and 24th here in Charleston.  Seminars presented by the Friends of Coal include “Surface Mining: Restoration and Post-Mine Land Use” and “The Potential Impact of EPA Policy on the Economy of West Virginia.”  (Note:  Seminar topics are subject to change.

A series of legislative briefings on issues related to coal mining.

In addition to the meetings, Friends of Coal have/are:

Completed and are awaiting delivery of this year’s Coal Facts 2010. Distribution is scheduled to begin next week.

Completed a Coal Facts 2010 tri-fold brochure that will be provided to this year’s Legislature and the general public.

Filming the next segment of The Coal Seam this coming Tuesday.

Attending the Interfaith Service Honoring Coal Miners set for Monday, December 20, 2010.

Working with the teaching staff at New Martinsville Elementary on a section related to coal mining in our state.

The Friends of Coal have also completed two Op-Ed pieces for submission to area newspapers, one on the economic benefits of coal to our state and the other on the issues leading to our opposition to the proposed new MSHA coal dust regulations.
